Komens™

Nitrogen-Fixing Microbial Inoculant

Komens™ provides nitrogen, naturally. Nitrogen is a foundational need for all plant life and Komens contains a duo of microorganisms that fix atmospheric nitrogen, reducing the need to apply fertilizers that quickly leach out of fields and into unwanted places in the environment.

Komens not only helps growers improve crop nutrition by fixing nitrogen, but also improves the availability of other nutrients to high-value specialty and row crops.

Komens comes in the form of a wettable powder. Impello also offers soluble concentrate and granular formulations of this product. Komens is also known as Nero and Bulhnova, depending on country and setting.

Contains: Azospirillum brasilense, Pantoea dispersa

How it works

1. Apply Komens at key stages of crop growth.

2. Microbes transform atmospheric nitrogen and solubilize bound phosphorus in soil, making these foundational nutrients available to the plant.

3. Microbial activity also makes soil-bound micronutrients (e.g., Fe, Ca, Mg) available, supporting both crop plants and other beneficial microorganisms.

Product Performance Report

Komens™ x Celery

In Spring 2023, in Somis, California, Komens™ increased celery yield, bunch weight, and readiness rate under adverse conditions. It enhanced foliar nutrient concentrations and nutrient use efficiency, improving plant growth and reducing fertilizer costs.

download report

Komens™ x Blueberries

In November 2019, a trial in Huelva, Spain, demonstrated that Komens™ improved blueberry yields and quality under a reduced fertilization program. It enhanced nutrient use efficiency and soil health while helping to lower fertilizer costs.

download report

Komens™ x Lettuce

Winter and spring trials in Somis, CA, and Yuma, AZ, showed a treatment improved lettuce yields, readiness, and compactness with reduced nitrogen fertilization. Increases in nitrogen and potassium levels highlighted improved nutrient use efficiency and lower input costs.

download report

Komens™ x Strawberry

In November 2023, in Somis, California, a treatment increased total seasonal yield per plot, with a higher number of berries contributing to improved yield weights. It also delivered the highest average dollar-per-acre returns, outperforming the grower standard across fertilization programs.
